This class is in-person at Artichoke Music (in SE Portland). Limited to 13 Students. Classroom is located upstairs(front classroom)

This class meets on Wednesdays for 7 weeks. The dates for this class are April 30, May 7, 14, 21, 28, June 4, and 11. Class is 6-7pm

Class Description:

Jazz up your uke playin’ skills(and chords) with this “easy” class version of Tracy’s popular Swing/Gypsy Jazz/Blues course.

This fun 7 week class is all about learning jazz classics(and meeting other like-minded jazz uke enthusiasts and with a focus accompanying for those who enjoy singing.

Students will learn to read from a lead sheet and also from Tracy’s custom “Easy” arrangements. Note reading is not necessary, music will be emailed as PDFs in standard notation and TABS. Tracy will be using and teaching on a tenor ukulele with a low G string(recommended but not necessary).

Tracy will teach the melody and chords for each song nice and slowly. Students will also get an introduction to chord melody playing with Tracy’s easy chord melody arrangements for select songs from this term.

All levels are welcome to join, some previous experience is recommended. Each session will start with an easy “jam session” of the previous song to warm-up.

This workshop all about having fun strumming, singing(optional) and developing a repertoire of classic jazz songs. We will use basic “cowboy” chords and some fancy chords. Tracy will explain and demystify the “fancy jazz” chords. Students will no longer be confused by all those crazy chord names! You will also learn how to create intros and endings and a few jazzy licks, too!

Tracy Kim has taught music professionally for the last 25+ years in the Portland area. He can be seen performing in the area many nights a week often with different ensembles from folk to rock to country to jazz. Many of his students have gone on to be professional musicians and instructors.
